Most of the time, there is a need for the SAP users and functional consultants to build up and establish quick reports efficiently. This means that there is no need for any ABAP coding to be done, as there is time taken to finish the coding in the development, conversion and testing of the data in the quality assurance (QA) system. This, then transports to the production which takes too much time and can span long periods of time to finish. In these cases, the ABAP/4 query tool is provided by the SAP technologies in the generation of the necessary reports.
Before one could start to write the ABAP query, it is recommended to decide upon the report type that the user desires. Among the types of report desired that the SAP technology ABAP query provides are as follows:
- BASIC LIST. This contains a simple report.
- STATISTICS. This is a report which includes statistical functions, such as percentage and average.
- RANKED LIST. This is a report written for the purpose of analysis.
The result of the query can be seen in the order listed above while one ABAP query can only have one basic list. It has a maximum of nine results for statistics and ranked list.
Generally, a SAP query involves four steps: creation of the user group, establishment of functional area, assigning of user group to functional area and lastly, query results basing on the functional area.
